Waterfalls in Oslo
Long exposures turn time into texture. On most of the pictures in this article I have used an ND1000 filter. this is a very dark neutral density filter and it slows the shutter and let moving water draw its own shapes. With so much light held back, streams and waves that normally look harsh and chaotic become soft, flowing ribbons; waterfalls turn into silky veils; the sea smooths out into mist or glass. Solid objects like rocks, piers and shorelines stay sharp and still, while the water blurs around them, creating a quiet contrast between motion and calm. It is the same landscape you know, just stretched out in time.
